Internet Access
Broadband is Better

The FirstClass Server, operating in a networked office (LAN), will be your company's INTRAnet.

When the FirstClass Server is "plugged into" the INTERnet (via a connection provided by an Internet Service Provider — ISP), people not physcially connected to your office LAN can also access your INTRAnet. That means employees can "logon" to their accounts from somewhere else just as if theyw ere using the office computer. They will see nothing difffernt. Others will see them exactly the same as always.

A dedicated T1 service is excellent way to conenct your office to the internet, but may be too much for the demands of your company.

The easiest and least expensive way for companies to access the Internet is via a DSL service. many service providers ofer DSL. Start with your local telephone service provider and then also consider ompanies like Earthlink. Unfortunately, not every location is able to get DSL service.

Cable modem service is a fine alternative. And if all else fails, individual 56k dial up accounts will work.

CMIS can be configured in several ways (with respect to the location of yoru server, lease vs license and type of connection to the Internet)

  • Installed on a computer loctaed in your offices — The most direct and least expensive alternative. This approach requires that your company license FirstClass Server software ,purchase, install, manage and maintain the machine to host the FC Server software and admsinster the system, manage backups and have a broadband conection to the Internet and "static" (or fixed) IP address for you server. These requirements are very simple for a computer savvy company of any size.
  • Installed on a computer in your ISP offices — The same as above, but the ISP would provide the hardwre, make the back-ups and host the machine in their offices. The cost would be about $500 per month for their service (static IP and very high speed connection to the Internet, backups and routine equipment maintenance) and use of their machine in addition to the cost of licensing the FirstClass Server software, set-up and configuration).

Leasing accounts on our servers — You would pay a flat monthly fee per user. We would provide all services such as euipment maintenqnce, backups and conection to the Internet.

The basic difference is the degree of control that you have (you would not have administrator's privilages if leasing accounts on our FirstClass server)
